Training and certification of instructor and exam supervisor

After the first approval, the IWC-IS shall train its own instructor in the IWC to become certified instructor in desired specialty (example IWE – International Welding Expert). Also the IWC-IS Test supervisor shall be certified by IWC (In person or by web conference)

Qualification of instructor and exam supervisor

The IWC-IS Instructor shall attend a training session as observer with IWC qualified Instructor. After, he shall be a trainer in other session but under the supervision of IWC qualified Instructor. At the conclusion of qualification activities, the IWC qualified Instructor will prepare a report of findings, identifying the approval or refusal of IWC-IS Instructor qualification. Same for Exam supervisor.

On-Site Assessment

The IWC- International Welding Center shall designate its own assessor to perform on-site assessments. The assessor providing this service shall be under contract with IWC. Assessments may take from one to three days. Assessors are given an assessment guide and checklist to follow in performing an assessment.

The assessment generally involves:

(1) An entry briefing with IWC-IS management.

(2) Examination of equipment, training room and exam room.

(3) Interviews with the staff.

(4) An exit briefing of assessor findings.

The objective of an assessment is to establish whether an International Section complies with the IWC criteria for the accreditation which is sought. Assessors may provide advice in response to questions or on the basis of observations to provide help to improve the IWC-IS's potential of being in compliance.

At the conclusion of an assessment, the assessor will prepare a report of findings, identifying deficiencies (i.e., deviations from the criteria and certification method procedures for which accreditation is requested) which, in the opinion of the assessor, the IWC-IS must correct in order to be accredited.

After the exit briefing with top management of the IWC-IS, or the designee of the IWC-IS, the Section Representative is asked to sign the deficiency report to attest that he has reviewed the deficiency report with the assessor.

If any deficiencies are noted on the deficiency report, the IWC-IS is requested to respond within one month of the date of the exit briefing. It is entirely possible that the IWC-IS may disagree with the findings.

In that case, the IWC-IS is requested to write to IWC certification department explaining why it disagrees with the assessor.

Accreditation Decisions

The assessor's report, communications from the IWC-IS, and other information from the application is submitted to the main certification committee for information.

If accreditation is granted, the IWC shall prepare and forward a certificate and scope of accreditation to the IWC-IS.

The IWC-IS should keep the scope of accreditation available to show clients or potential clients. IWC Certification Department also uses each IWC-IS's scope of accreditation to respond to inquiries.
